Scope of lesson

This article presents the quick way of designing gravity sanitary sewage installations. The aim of this simple approach to designing is to obtain a reliable model of a sanitary sewage installation, disregarding fittings visualization and quality control of fitting selection in junctions.

Modules and program configuration

  • InstalSystem 5.5 with the module:
    • Domestic wastewater gravity systems

Project file

The project file used in this lesson: Gravity sanitary sewage installations - quick design (example for the lesson).

Initial state

Quick method of designing the gravity sanitary sewage installation does not require the creation of a Building structure.
The file contains a full range of Underlay sheets. The first floor accommodates the Fixtures.

Steps to perform

The selected steps to perform are included in the basic course of gravity sanitary sewage installations designing and constitute a simplified form of operations described in:

The steps that are included in the article mentioned above and are not included in this article are optional in the quick design.

Opening the project file

  1. When creating a New project, select from the list the template that contains the default data for the drainage system.
  2. (or): upload an existing building structure file - minimum content is correct ordinates and slab thicknesses. If the design was created with a configuration that did not include the drainage system, import the drainage system general data from the appropriate template.
    For more information, see: Template files

Edit installation

Editing the installation structure

  • Insert sanitary appliances, if these were not included in the file;
  • Insert Stack elements and complete their essential data in the Data table window;
  • Insert the Sanitary sewage outlet and verify its position in the model. Connect it with the Stack elements;
  • Connect the appliances with the Stack automatically, drawing common branches connected to the stack, then using the function Automatically connect terminal units. Or, in necessary cases, manually, using the Pipe-run components:

  • In the case of connection of several branches at one point of the stack, correct the Method of declaring the point of connection to the stack:

  • Use the function Insert to all selected components to insert Label to the components on the drawing:

  • If the layout of the rooms is the same on each storey, copy repetitive parts of the installation to other storeys using Copy selected elements to the storey above or Copy selected elements to multiple storeys function.
    Note: To avoid additional corrections and to speed up the installation design process, for multi-storey buildings with a repetitive storey layout, we recommend initially to make the connection of the appliances only on the first typical storey and to carry out a preliminary calculations. And only then copy parts of the installation to the next storeys.

  • Insert necessary Fittings in the 2D editor or on the 3D view. Use the function Insert to all selected components to insert the same Fittings into multiple sections. Set the Type:

Calculations and diagnostics

Start the calculation of the Drainage systems by clicking Tap-Drainage-Calculator.png in the Calculations section of the toolbar.

Verification of results

Verify calculation results, diagnostics messages and the installation layout visually by means of the 3D view.

Incorrect gradient value %s %

In order to finish the calculations regardless of occurrence "Incorrect gradient value %s %" Errors, check ON the checkbox Tolerable value of gradient for branches in the General data window / Calculation standards and options section and correct the value if necessary. Separately for branches and common branches, separately for the waste manifold. Then recalculate the project again. Only gradients smaller than the specified value will be shown as errors:

"Size pipe fittings" option

If the Results of the calculations in the scope of fitting sizes are unsatisfactory or contain many Errors, the option Size pipe fittings can be disabled in the General data window. This will make the program skip the calculation of fitting sizes, including in the Bill of materials.
