Problem description
When Designing heating systems with convective radiators, it is necessary to specify the data that will be used by default in the calculations to determine the effective output power of the radiators. One of such settings is the activation of the Adjust flow rates function.
Solution
The function Adjust flow rates can be enabled in the General data window, Thermal systems / Radiators / Radiator sizing options tab.

If the function is Inactive:
- The Mass flow rate for the Radiator is determined on the basis of the Temperature difference of the heating medium across the Radiator ( Δθs,H - Radiators) specified in radiator's data table, and derived from the General data;

2. Default temperature difference. - In this case, the value of Obtained heating output of the Radiator may differ from the value of Required heating output, especially when the Radiator size is imposed manually, the required size of the Radiator is not available, etc., or if Addition for thermostat is used.
If the function is Active:
- The Mass flow rate and Return temperature for the Radiator are being raised for undersized radiators, or reduced for oversized ones (the Addition for thermostat is also a kind of oversizing);
- In this case, Temperature difference of the heating medium across the Radiator may significantly differ from the value specified in radiator's data.
- The limitations to flow rates adjustment are:
- minimum temperature drop in the Radiator, set in the General data,
- minimum difference between Return temperature and Room temperature, which is constant.
Note: If the overall Return temperature (at the inlet to the heat Source) is too low and cannot be accepted, minimize the number of oversized radiators.
