Problem description

Problems related to the correct creation of a building structure are diagnosed during Computation of building structure through precise diagnostic messages of the rank of error, warning or hint. The most common errors include:

  • It has been detected that wall may not be in contact with roof or slab. Probably room was not generated.
    This Warning is displayed when:
    • there is a Wall in the design, which does not contact any Slab/Roof on its top,
    • or when a Wall on the lowermost storey does not contact any Slab on its bottom.
  • Incorrect wall/slab/roof shape has been detected. Try to correct or remove it and draw again.
    This Warning is displayed when:
    • during Computation of building structure an improper shape of Wall is detected (e.g. a thin fragment of a wall protrudes from a joint between two perpendicular walls).
  • Shape of the "%s" element is probably inaccurately drawn and this could be the reason for the lack of recognition of the room.
    This Warning is displayed when:
    • gaps between walls and slabs or roofs were identified during Computation of building structure . This may be the result of insufficient precision of drawing.
  • Intersecting walls were detected.
    This Warning is displayed when:
  • Incorrect wall dimension or shape unables proper connection with other walls.
    This Error is displayed when:
    • during Computation of building structure Wall components of definite shape are detected, while the points representing the start and end of this shape coincide in XY coordinates. The Wall drawn in this way creates problems when combined with other walls.
  • Overlapping walls or incorrectly connected walls .
    This Error is displayed when:
    • during Computation of building structure an abnormal shape of a room is detected, e.g. due to an incomplete room edge. The incorrect shape is usually the result of overlapping walls or their incorrect connection.
  • There are rooms in the project that have not been generated automatically.
This Warning is displayed when a Room (Automatic) component cannot be identified.
The condition for the formation of a Room (Automatic) component is the creation of a perfectly tight solid with a flawless connection of the walls, covered tightly from above by a Slab/Roof component and from below by a Slab component.
    1. Room (Automatic).

The most common problems that make it impossible to create a solid room include situations where:
    • a Room (Manual) overlaps another Room (Manual),
    • Wall components that make up a Room (Automatic) are not joined together,
    • a Slab or Roof does not completely cover a Room (Automatic) within its wall faces,
    • Wall components are not joined correctly,
    • an Opening in slab overlaps a Wall.
  • Opening in slab overlaps with the wall.
    This Warning is displayed when:
    • an Opening in slab extending beyond the outline of an Room (Automatic) located on the inserted storey or the storey below,
    • an Opening in slab enters a multi-storey Wall.
  • Wrong shape of element or opening in element.
    This Error is displayed when:
    • an Opening in slab extends beyond the contour of the Slab (the Slab disappears in 3D),
    • the edges of a given Opening in slab overlap each other.
  • Edge of element overlaps with opening in this or another element. Verify if you can adjust the shape or position of the slab or use the Join slabs function.
    This Error is displayed when:
    • one of the edges of the Opening in slab is tangent to the edge of the Slab.
  • Elements are overlapping.
    This Warning is displayed when:
    • slabs overlap each other at the same level.
  • Internal error during calculation phase: %s. Please report the error with the project file to the software producer
    • This is an internal code error caused by a problem with executing the calculations correctly. It is displayed without indicating a specific component in the building structure.

Solution

After clicking on the error message in the Diagnostics window, in 2D editor and 3D view the component that causes the problem for Computation of building structure is checked. If the diagnostic message applies to more than one component, these are grouped in the Component field list. The elimination of each error requires a manual modification in the scope of the building structure and then a re-execution of Computation of building structure . Examples of how this can be solved are shown in the videos below.

It has been detected that wall may not be in contact with roof or slab. Probably room was not generated

  • Carry out a shape adjustment for the Slab/Roof component so that it covers the and seals the room body tightly.
  • Correct the value Height within faces hf for the Wall component to the default value for the storey.

Incorrect wall/slab/roof shape has been detected. Try to correct or remove it and draw again

  • Correction of the layout of components for which an error occurs.

Shape of the "%s" element is probably inaccurately drawn and this could be the reason for the lack of recognition of the room

  • Improve the shape of the element. Note that to facilitate the search, the problem place will be marked in red with an additional arrow.

Intersecting walls were detected

  • Run Correction of wall geometry with the Correct wall connections option enabled.
    2. Correct wall connections.

  • Correction of wall layout for which a diagnostic message is displayed.

Incorrect wall dimension or shape unables proper connection with other walls

  • Correction in the wall connection area for which diagnostics are displayed.

Overlapping walls or incorrectly connected walls

  • Correction at the junction of walls that have been generated incorrectly.

There are rooms in the project that have not been generated automatically

Depending on the design situation, the error can be resolved in a number of ways:

  • Select Correction of wall geometry and run Correct wall connections followed by Computation of building structure .
    3. Correction of wall geometry

  • Verification of the correctness of Opening in slab components.
    4. Opening in slab

    • In the Data table of Slab uncheck Active slab holes and run Computation of building structure .
    • If Computation of building structure was completed without any errors, then in all Slab components that cover rooms remove the Opening in slab components.
    • From the Correction of wall geometry tool launch the Correct wall connections operation, and then again Computation of building structure .
    • Insert the Opening in slab components.
    • Run Computation of building structure .
  • Flipping the base points of the Wall components.
    5. Base point of a Wall

    • In a room that is created from serially connected Wall components, their base points must be flipped over so that they are all positioned on one line.
    • In the Correction of wall geometry tool run Correct wall connections.
    • Run Computation of building structure .
  • Reduction of the number of Wall components of identical thickness.
    6. Reduction of the number of Wall components

    • In a room that is made up of serially connected walls of identical thickness, the number of walls must be reduced.
    • Manually correct the connections of Wall components.
    • Run Computation of building structure .
  • Correction of the height of Wall components on a storey.
    7. Correction of the height of Wall components

    • Using the functions accessible in the Search window select all Wall components on the storey.
    • In the data table of the selected Wall components reset their heights to the default value for the storey by changing the question mark or pencil icon into a computer icon.

Opening in slab overlaps with the wall

This message needs to be improved by correcting Opening in slab for which it occurs:

  • in the case when the Opening in slab extending beyond the outline of an Room (Automatic) located on the inserted storey

  • in the case when the Opening in slab extending beyond the outline of an Room (Automatic) located on the storey below

  • in the case when the Opening in slab enters a multi-storey Wall

Wrong shape of element or opening in element

  • Position the Opening in slab so that it does not extend beyond the contour of the Slab.

ATTENTION! There are Warnings and an Error in this case. Improve the Error at first, because Warnings may be the effect of an Error.

  • Correct the edges of the Opening in slab.

Edge of element overlaps with opening in this or another element. Verify if you can adjust the shape or position of the slab or use the Join slabs function

  • The message mostly occurs after interpreting the Building structure from the IFC model. This can be resolved by improvement the Opening in slab or the Slab inserted inside an Opening in slab.

Elements are overlapping

  • Correct the shape of the slabs so that they do not overlap.

Internal error during calculation phase: %s. Please report the error with the project file to the software producer

  • If other error messages relating to the building structure are displayed in the Diagnostics window together with the Internal error during calculation phase: %s. Please report the error with the project file to the software producer message, these can be resolved first and the Computation of building structure can be re-executed for the corrected layout of the construction components.
  • Alternatively, it is also possible to try to perform the Correction of wall geometry operation, or to delete the recently edited components and redraw them, and then execute Computation of building structure again.
  • If the above measures are not successful, report the error using Problem report form.
